The Process for Schools

In this section, we provide a brief overview of the process followed by each school and helpful resources.

3-Step Process

  1. Measure your climate footprint with an easy calculator

  2. Reduce your footprint as much as you can

  3. Offset the rest with UN’s Certified Emission Reductions (CERs)

Step 1: Measure Your Carbon Footprint

  1. Sign the UNFCCC’s Pledge – Your school’s name will then appear on their website!

  2. Calculate your Carbon Footprint

  3. Gather the paperwork you need: Heating & Electricity Bills

Step 2: Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

  1. Identify one adult and at least one student who will be in charge of the Dual Pledge

  2. View Success Stories

  3. Schedule a meeting with WGC USA

Step 3: Offset your Carbon Footprint

  1. Fill out the Carbon Footprint Calculator

  2. Discover your Total Emissions

  3. Find a project to fund in order to offset a portion of your carbon emissions

Step 3: Fund a Project (Part 2)

  1. Determine a fundraising plan to raise the money needed to offset

    1. Apply for a One World Offset Matching Grant!

  2. Once you have completed the process, the UNFCCC will send you a certificate confirming your Carbon Neutral Status.

  3. They will also put your school’s logo on their website alongside other global carbon-neutral players.
